I did read this article and was waiting for someone to comment about it. I have to agree, the guy does not have much upstairs. I know from taking first aid that there are times where if its a choice between a ring and the finger, the ring gets cut off. It wouldn't have ruined the ring, all they do is make a cut on the back of the ring, spread it open so they can get the ring off of the finger. A good goldsmith could weld it back together that no one could tell it had been cut. I guess he thought that was "chivalry". Just shows you what type of uneducated idiots are running around over there!!!

What "cult-like" practices have you noticed with Born-Again Christians?

i recently went to a "pentacostal church" with my neighbor who has been a devout pentacostal for 30 years.

she has been asking me for years to come to her church since i left jw's so i finally went with her a few sundays ago.

i must admit i was nearly scared "speechless".

I guess I should be so harse in my words but my first hand experience is that the Fundamental Chrismantic Christians are no worse or no better than the JW. They use the same type of shallow theological reasoning as the JW. If you dare question their biblical authority they look at you as you are the crazy person. They won't read anything that is contrary to biblical teachings.

i added up all the imediate members of my family who have left the b'org and more have left then remain.

this was promped by a conversation i had lastnight with my son who told me about a jw kid from his past got in contact with him out of the blue and she was telling him how many in her family were now df'ed and never planning on returning.

we were really surprised because she was an elder's daughter and one of the last people you would think would leave.. so what is your family score?

Myself and my 2 sons are out. I have a 3 neices and nephews that are out but my mom, dad and 1 brother and 2 sisters are still in. My ex's is still holding on but all the rest of her family are out. Funny because I can recall as it was yesterday my ex father in law preaching to me about the 1914 generation and how this system's end is sooooooo close.....

Only in America....?

much said here recently re the world at large and how it views the us - not too favorably overall - however - must make this point - president bush has just announced his intention to have as secretary of state condoleeza rice - now for me that is amazing and a credit to the american system - she is from a poor, black american background, was rejected years ago in the south by the democrats - yet by hard work she has risen to the very top - cant see that happening in similar circumstances here in the uk - clearly one difference between us is that hard work can get rewarded in the us.

a further note - seeing president bush introduce her when announcing his intention to put her nomination forward, i for one was struck by his apparent absolute admiration for this lady, for once he had no smirk as she spoke, rather he looked on her with evident pride and respect.

not a fan of gw but must give him marks here for his positive discrimination in favor of talent regardless of background, ethnicity or whatever.

JW "Shotgun weddings."

i know of more than one situation when two young jw's (say, 15 and 16) who have been caught "fornicating" and been given the option of getting married or getting df'd.

any one else seen this happen?

I know in my case, I was not 16 but we were told that if we were going to get into trouble, it was better to get married. It was bad advise and ended up in divorce years later.
